  • Alex Umansky, Esq.

    Partner

Alex Umansky is a dedicated New York workplace discrimination attorney at Law Office of Yuriy Moshes, P.C. He works at the forefront of the fight for employee rights, and is committed to continuing his stellar track record of obtaining substantial and just verdicts for his clients. Among his career successes have been multiple six-figure verdicts and judgments, including one for $400,000 and a seven-figure verdict of $1,692,000 in a construction accident case, which was one of the top verdicts in New York that year. Mr. Umansky’s commitment to fighting on behalf of those that have been wronged is reflected in his distinguished work as a civil rights litigator. Before joining Law Office of Yuriy Moshes, P.C., he gained valuable experience as a trial lawyer conducting multiple trials at the state and federal levels. He now brings the same energy and determination to serving his employment law clients at our firm. Among other matters, he fights discriminatory and harassing workplace conduct, and also assists those workers who have been unfairly punished or retaliated against for speaking out about their employer’s conduct. Mr. Umansky obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History at the State University of New York in Stony Brook before graduating from New York University with a Masters in International Relations. While attending New York Law School, he participated in the Immigration Law Students Association and the Dispute Resolution Team. As a law student, Mr. Umansky served as a judicial intern for the Supreme Court of the State of New York in the Commercial Division for the Honorable Charles E. Ramos. He graduated in 2010 and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar the same year. The following year, he was admitted to the New York Bar. Mr. Umansky interned with the Department of Homeland Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, where he conducted research and wrote on immigration and international law topics, including human rights, minority rights, and refugee status. He also brings an understanding of the criminal justice system to his practice, having served as an Assistant District Attorney for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office before dedicating himself to civil litigation. In addition to his admission to two state bars, Mr. Umansky is admitted to practice in federal court before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of New York, and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He maintains professional memberships with the national and New York Chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association. In 2015, he served as a guest speaker at the National Employment Lawyers Association annual fall conference, presenting in “Just Do It: Closing Arguments.” He also served as a judge for the Law School Mock Trial Competition held at the District Court for the Southern District of New York. He is fluent in Russian. Employment law can be a complex practice area, particularly from a procedural standpoint. Mr. Umansky has a strong grasp of the technical requirements necessary to handle the various types of employment cases, and always works towards the best possible settlement for his clients. However, in the event that an employment dispute cannot be settled to his client’s satisfaction, he relies on his superior training and advocacy skills as a trial lawyer to obtain the best results before a judge or jury.
