  • Dr.Ashley Marcus

    MD

Dr. Ashley Marcus is a physiatrist with who completed a musculoskeletal fellowship in interventional pain management, sports, and occupational medicine. She first decided to become a physiatrist when she realized that focusing on physical medicine and rehabilitation would allow her to improve patients’ functional status and quality of life. She grew up with a mother struggling to overcome the debilitating symptoms of multiple sclerosis. She observed that one of the most frustrating things for an individual to lose is their independence and, secondly, the ability to do the things he or she enjoys. She has made it her mission to promote her patient’s functional recovery so that they can go back to the activities that they love. She attended medical school at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and then completed an internship in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, New York. She embraced leadership during her residency at Nassau University Medical School, where she was the chief resident as well as the president of the resident’s council. In order to obtain further training, she returned to Rutgers to complete a fellowship in musculoskeletal medicine. She is a member of the Spine Intervention Society and the New York Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and believes in staying up to date with the most current evidence-based medicine. Dr. Marcus is excited to join Precision Care Medical in Brooklyn, NY. She intends to use her skills to provide her patients with compassionate, individualized, patient-centered care.

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This treatment works by needling the acupuncture points which then stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals in the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals will either change the experience of pain, or they will trigger the release of other chemicals and hormones which influence the body’s own internal regulating system. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being. While acupuncture is often associated with pain control, in the hands of a well-trained practitioner it has much broader applications. Acupuncture can be effective as the only treatment used, or as the support or adjunct to other medical treatment forms in many medical and surgical disorders. The World Health Organization recognizes the use of acupuncture in the treatment of a wide range of medical problems, including: Digestive disorders: gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, diarrhea. Respiratory disorders: sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, recurrent chest infections. Neurological and muscular disorders: headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis. Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems.
